Gingerbread Simple Syrup

This syrup is perfect for flavoring drinks or soaking cakes.

Gingerbread Simple Syrup

Ingredients

  • 2 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 2 c. water
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 clove
  • 1 tbs. ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cardamom
  • 1/16 tsp. ground mace
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper

Combine ingredients in a sauce pan. Heat over medium heat. Stir frequently and cook until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and allow syrup to cool completely before using.

This sauce is perfect for serving with ice cream or folding into whipped cream.

Spiced Cherry Sauce

Ingredients

  • 3 c. frozen tart cherries, defrosted
  • 1/4 c. dark brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground star anise
  • 1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract (optional)

Yields Approximately 1 1/2 Cups

Spiced Cherry Sauce

Place all the ingredients into a blender or food processor and pulse to combine. Pour ingredients into a sauce pan and cook over medium heat. Bring to a simmer, stirring frequently and cook until sauce is thickened and reduced by half. Pour into a heart-proof container and allow to cool before refrigerating.
